Header Image

I wanted to create a texture for the fill in my font so I chose a wider font that would show this better than a thin one. The font I used is PT Sans Caption. I actually created this in Illustrator. I drew a colored background then put the text on top of it. I decided on the texture fill first and then played with the background rectangle color to find a nice contrast. I also added a slight drop shadow to give it a little pop.

Image Examples

JPG Example
This flower seed store uses JPG thumbnails in the same size to showcase a variety of flowers to purchase.

GIF Example
The logo for the California Strawberry Commission is a GIF on this website.

PNG Example
The English garden photos on this site are in PNG format.

For this photo I optimized as PNG and cropped as a tall vertical image.

GIF

For the Yay graphic I optimized as a 4 color GIF with a transparent background.

I optimized this photograph of some beets from the garden as a JPG at 72 resolution.

Blog design 2

I downloaded this energetic template from eblogger.com. I searched for paper textures and pulled up quite a few. I had to reformat the font size of the blog title. Many of the design editing features were locked or not applicable on this template so I had to hunt down the elements in HTML. I made the blog title a smaller font so it would fit. The template has a larger header image and a brown background color that contrasts nicely with the white area where all of the content is. I find it much easier on the eyes to read text on a white background vs a dark background.

Blog design 1

I liked the paper texture in the header of this template to go along with "Paper Jammin'" the title of my blog. I changed the page text color to a grey green, changed the blog title font to something more playful - Cherry Cream Soda. I like the two column layout on the 3 column grid. It's already balanced so I did not edit it.

My favorite website - Rhapsody

Rhapsody isn't just a website; it's a service. In their words "the ultimate digital jukebox: For $10 a month you can listen to whatever you want, whenever you want, on whatever gadget you choose" It truly is an amazing musical library...the modern day radio. We have the Rhapsody iPhone app and use it as a wireless remote to control our Sonos speakers in the living room. Love it!

Hello Designers

My name is Jill and I've been studying graphic design for a few years at Foothill College. And I love it! I work full time in the non-profit field and specialize in marketing and fundraising. I'm engaged and just finished designing our wedding website. I'll share it when it's live - very exciting!

I want to learn website design to grow as an artist and essentially learn the trade. Website design is a required skill for any designers portfolio and I look forward to learning more about interactive design. My ultimate goal is to be working as a Graphic Designer.
